    Banner Elk is a quaint town in Avery County and home to both Sugar Ski and Beech Mountain Ski resorts. Banner Elk has several high end gated communities and is typically the quieter of the three main towns (Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk. In Banner Elk, you’ll find some beautiful views, great fishing and hiking, and landmarks such as Elk River Falls which you won’t want to miss. Every year, over 17,000 people pour into this small mountain community to enjoy the Woolly Worm Festival, where you can get a taste for mountain culture and race your very own woolly worm for a grand prize of $1,000.

    Get to Know the Communities of Banner Elk

     Elk River Club is a very upscale community and club with one of the most incredible golf courses, equestrian facility and private airport/landing strip. Eagles Nest is another more rustic, luxurious community with private fishing waters, hiking/ATV trails, outdoor amphitheater, helicopter landing site and much more – they don’t have a “club” or restaurant but they do put on several events/concerts where they use the outdoor kitchens at the pavilions. Other nice communities include Fox Meadow Farm, The Farm, and Banner Grande.

    Staying in Banner Elk

    There are several quaint and historic inns and Bed and Breakfasts in Banner Elk, in addition to the lodging available through the ski resorts. You could opt, however, for a stay in a luxury home in a premier community like Eagle’s Nest to experience the sweeping views and rustic luxury. While visiting Banner Elk, some oddities include The Land of Oz, white-water rafting, and a summer full of opportunities and concerts at Beech Mountain.
